Actor Deepika Padukone recently sparked a conversation on the treatment with Indian cinema of the Oscars, calling what she perceives as recurring monitoring of films and deserving talents. In an Instagram frank coil shared during the preparation of Louis Vuitton Show in Paris, the actress expressed her frustration, declaring that “India was deprived of the Oscars on several occasions”.

Deepika’s emotional link with the victory of RRR Oscars
In the video, Deepika answered the question: “What is an Oscars victory that seemed personal to you?” Reflecting on the monumental success of RRRDirected by SS Rajamouli, she explained how her Oscar victory in 2023 for the best original song (‘Naatu naatu’) struck a deep agreement with her. “I remember being in the audience, and when they announced RRRI became emotional, “she said.” Apart from being an Indian, I really had nothing to do with this film, but it was a huge and huge moment. It seemed very, very personal.
By celebrating RRRThe historic victory, Deepika did not hesitate to criticize the broader history of the Academy. “Many, many deserving films, I think, have been snubbed. Whether films, whether it was talent …”, she said, alluding to an exclusion model which, according to her, has ignored the rich cinematographic contributions of India.

Oscars of India: a mixed heritage
India’s relationship with Oscars has been a subject of discussion for decades. While films love Lagaan (2001) obtained an appointment and Slumdog millionaire (2008) – The latter British production with Indian roots – more than one Oscar, many argue that the Academy fails to appreciate the diversity and depth of Indian cinema beyond traditional stories. With more than 2,000 films produced each year on several languages, the film industry of India is one of the largest in the world – it is that its transport to the Oscars remains disproportionate.
