“Facilities Here Are Very good”: Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew At Billie Jean King Cup 2025 In Pune

Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand made big waves in group 1 of the Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania, after winning her two games so far at the prestigious tournament, organized by MSLTA in association with Aita and PMDTA, at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis in Pune complex. The first day, Manchaya helped Thailand during their 3-0 victory in Hong Kong, China. She came from behind to win her equality 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Hong Yi Cody Wong to help her team start their campaign on a solid note.
She then continued her momentum on the second day when Thailand faced the hosts of India. Manchaya faced Sahaja Yamalapalli, which she beat 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 in a closely disputed match. The Thai feeling won the first 6-3 set, but Sahaja responded well and took the second set after winning the equality break. Unfortunately for the Indian, she had to withdraw from the match due to an injury in the third set.
About his gaming experience in India, Manchaya said: “I have played in India since I was a junior and I really like it. Sometimes it’s difficult to play because it’s wet but I get used to it. Indian players are really improving and I like to play here.”
Manchaya recently played the WTA Mumbai Open 2025 in India, which was also organized by MSLTA. “The installations here are very good like the WTA Mumbai Open. It is better than before and I am always happy to come to India,” she added.
Reflecting more on weather conditions, she said: “I played the second game in the evening, so it helped me a lot. I saw my teammates play the first match in the afternoon and I noticed that the ball was very flat. When the sun is lying, it’s not that hot and the ball stays on the field, so it’s better.”
Manchaya also stressed the importance of his team and the role they play in the tournament. “There is a lot of pressure in this tournament because we play for our country but we support ourselves very much and we help ourselves to relax. When we represent the country, it is mainly mental force and the coach helped me a lot. Everyone makes me smile and I like this team,” she said.
About her opponent, Sahaja, Mananchaya said: “She played very well and improved a lot before. She fought hard for her country, but it was regrettable that she had to retire. We did not want to finish like that, but I hope she improves and continues to fight tomorrow.”
