Kiran Rao joins international jury of 27th Shanghai International Film Festival : Bollywood News
Kiran Rao was appointed to the International Jury of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (Siff), one of Asia’s most prominent and competitive film festivals. The appointment marks another important step in Rao’s acclaimed career as director, producer and writer. Rao, whose recent film Laapataa ladies (ladies lost) The official entry of India was the best category of international feature films at the 96th Academy Awards, will join a distinguished panel of world cinema voted by the Italian director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore, better known for Oscariso Cinema Paradiso.

The jury includes a diverse range of famous cinema professionals: the Argentinian filmmaker Iván Fund; Chinese actor and director Huang Bo; Greek producer Thanassis Karathanos; Chinese director and documentary filmmaker Yang Lina; And the Chinese actress acclaimed Yong Mei.
Rao expressed his gratitude and his excitement at the idea of joining the jury, declaring: “It is an honor to be part of a festival which defends international cinema and the narration. I can’t wait to experience the wide range of voices and prospects on the screen, and to get involved with my jurors from around the world. ”
The 27th edition of Siff will take place from June 13 to June 22, 2025 in Shanghai, China. The festival serves as an important platform for cultural exchange and cinematic excellence, highlighting emerging talents and established authors around the world.
