The co-owner of Punjab Kings and actress of Bollywood, Preity Zinta, filed a legal affair against her co-directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia in a court in Chandigarh. The three are the directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company which owns the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings. Preity Zinta challenged the legality of an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on April 21. She claims that the meeting was held without following the appropriate procedures under the 2013 law on companies and other secretarial rules. According to her, she opposed the meeting in an email on April 10, but her objections were ignored. She alleges that Mohit Burman continued the meeting with the support of Ness Wadia.
Even if Zinta and another director, Karan Paul, attended the meeting, she asked the court to declare him invalid. One of her main concerns is the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a director at the meeting, to which she and Paul opposed.
In his trial, Zinta also asked the court to prevent Khanna from acting as director and preventing the company from making any decision made at this meeting.
She also asked the court to prevent the company from holding more administration or general meetings without the presence of itself and Karan Paul, and without Muneesh Khanna being involved until the case being resolved.
Despite these legal problems, Preity Zinta continued to support the Kings of Punjab of the stands during the current season of the Indian Premier (IPL) 2025. This year was strong for the team.
Under the supervision of Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings have already qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2014. With 17 points in 12 games, they are currently in third place and aimed at a finish among the first two.
The Punjab Kings will then face the Capitals from Delhi to Jaipur on Saturday May 24 and the Mumbai Indians on Monday, May 26 to conclude their league commitments.
