The title champions of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) collapsed from the race for the eliminatory series in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after their match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were carried away due to the rain. Not a single ball was launched in the first match after the IPL 2025 resumption, because a heavy and persistent rain kept Mr. Chinnaswamy’s stadium under the covers throughout Saturday evening. Consequently, RCB and KKR each obtain one point each. This means that KKR can reach a maximum of 14 points, which will not be enough to secure a point in the playoffs.

With the Indians of Mumbai (Mi) and the capitals of Delhi (DC) to the fifth placed (DC) later in the season, he guarantees that at least one of these two teams will certainly end up above KKR.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, meanwhile, is close to a place in the playoffs. The result without RCB at 17 points and temporarily above table IPL 2025. However, a mathematical miracle could still see them eliminated.

If RCB loses its two remaining games, DC wins two games, PBKS would win one and Mi would win the two, that would leave three teams on 17 points, and the qualification would be summed up at a net rate.

KKR endured a disappointing season. After having faded to a victory in the dominant title in 2024, the men of Purple lost three crucial cogs at the mega auction, in the form of Captain Shreyas Iyer, the Mitchell Starc stimulator and the opener Phil Salt. KKR has suffered from inconsistency throughout the season. They lost five of their first eight games under the new captain Ajinkya Rahane.

An abandoned home match against Punjab Kings carried a hard blow for KKR earlier in the season, and now it’s another abandoned match that has seen them were eliminated.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat titans and the Punjab kings are also a victory for obtaining qualification for the playoffs, while the Mumbai Indians need two victories to certainly ensure the progress.
