Local religious authorities firmly denied the assertions. Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal, former religious officer of Badrinath Dham, told India today that Urvashi’s statements were “deceptive”. He said the temple is dedicated to the goddess Urvashi of Hindu mythology and is one of the 108 shaktipeeths.
“It is not its temple. Such declarations are unacceptable, and the government should take strict measures against anyone who makes such complaints,” said Uniyal.
Amit Sati, president of the Brahma Kapal Teerth Purohit Society, also criticized the actress’s remarks, declaring that the former temple is associated with the goddess Urvashi, not an individual. “Such statements lack respect for the religious feelings of the people here,” he added.
The inhabitants of the villages of Bamni and Pandakeshwar, who consider the temple as sacred, expressed anger. Resident Ramnarayan Bhandari said no one had the right to make personal allegations on a site with mythological importance.
