The former striker of India, Vinod Kambli, recently entered the spotlight because of his bad health problems and his financial difficulties. Kambli, who is the legendary childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar and played 104 ODI and 17 tests for India, treated several ailments. On December 21, 2024, he was admitted to the Akruti hospital in Thane for a urinary tract infection and cramps. In the midst of his deterioration in the state of health, Kambli also fights against a serious financial crisis. Seeing Kambli in his difficult moments, the former drummer of India and his renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar manifested themselves as a helping hand.
Gavaskar had promised to help Kambli during the inauguration of the legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai in December 2024. Now the legendary striker finally held his promise, because Kambli is ready to receive the monthly aid from Gavaskar.
According to a report from the Times of India (cited by Time now), The Gavaskar’s Champs Foundation will provide a monthly sum of Rs 30,000 in Kambli, as well as annual medical support of 30,000 rupees.
Gavaskar and Kambli also met at the Wankhede stadium for the 50th anniversary of the field celebrations in January.
Earlier in January, Kambli’s wife Andrea Hewitt revealed that she had asked for divorce in 2023, but decided to take it back after seeing her husband’s “defenseless state”.
During the podcast organized by freelance journalist Suryanshi Pandey, Andrea revealed that she had previously planned to leave Kambli but was constantly worried about her health.
“He will be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and it hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, but it is more than that. I remember that there were times when I would go away. But then I had to check it and I would understand that he needed me,” he said. Afterwards
