The Mukherjee family, one of the most eminent dynasties of Bollywood, gathered to say goodbye to the late director. Her daughter, actress Sharbani Mukherjee, was accompanied by cousins and close relatives during funeral rites.
The cousins Tanishaa Mukerji and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji were seen navigating the rainy streets of Mumbai to attend the funeral, while Kajol could not be present because of his promotional duties for his next film Maa. Despite his absence, the strong link within the family was clear in the presence of the solemn ceremony.
The filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, married to Sunita Gowariker – Deb Mukherjee’s daughter – was also present at the funeral. That makes him the brother-in-law of Ayan Mukerji. In particular, Ayan had suffered the loss of his father, Deb Mukherjee, a few months earlier in March.
The death of Rono Mukherjee marks the second significant loss for the Mukherjee family in 2025, coming after the death of his younger brother, actor Deb Mukherjee, March 14.
