For what THE CBFC Block Santosh?

SantoshLocated in a fictitious city in northern India, follows the journey of a young widow (played by Shahana Goswami) who joins the police and investigating the murder of a Dalit girl. The film does not hesitate to expose systemic problems such as police brutality, sexual violence against women with low caste and institutional biases such as Islamophobia. While these themes have won Santosh Acclaimed by criticism at the Cannes Film Festival and an appointment as an official UK’s official entry for 2025 Oscars in the category of international features, they proved to be too provocative for CBFC.

According to reports, the CBFC has required many cuts to the film, citing concerns about its “negative representation” of the Indian police forces. Director Sandhya Suri revealed that the suggested changes lasted several pages and targeted fundamental elements of the story, which makes them “impossible” to implement without compromising the integrity of the film.
