In a unique initiative to stimulate the physical and mental health of prisoners, the premier League in prison was organized in Mathura prison on the lines of the Indian Premier (IPL). The cricket tournament was organized in the prison premises and many prisoners participated in the event. According to prison superintendent, Anshuman Garg, the main objective of organizing the Prime League prison was to give a few moments of freedom to prisoners in the “fortified” life of the prison.
“The goal of this is that in today’s fortified life, certain moments will give a feeling of freedom. It is not only a final match, it is a victory of hope, a breed of trust. The ground is the same, but the players have changed – today, each race, each take, each victory … is an attempt to prove again,” said the prison superintendent.
Premier League prison began in April 2025, where eight teams from various barracks in Mathura prison were formed among the prisoners. Two groups each including four teams were trained, in which a total of 12 league games and two semi-final games were played with each other. The last match of the tournament was played between the capital and the Knight Riders, in which the Knight Riders came out victorious.

“The prison competition in the Premier League was launched among the prisoners in April 2025. A total of 8 teams from various prison barracks were trained in the said League. There were 4 teams in group A and 4 teams from Group B. In total, 12 championship games and 2 games in the semi-finals were played with each other. The final match was played today. In which the Knight Riders team is Appearing victorious, “said Anshuman Garg.
A prisoner, Kaushal, was appointed player of the match and player of the series, while Pankaj and Bhura ended up winning the purple and orange caps, respectively.
