Hindustani Bhau moves the court against Farah Khan on the remark of “chhapris” on Holi
According to his advocacy, Khan made a derogatory comment on the festival during an episode of February 2025 of Celebrity Masterchef. He also said that despite the filing of an official complaint, the police did not take any measure.
The incident took place on February 20, when Farah Khan would have called Holi as “a festival for chhapris”.
Hindustani Bhau argued that “chhapris” are a slang term with derogatory connotations, involving a lack of culture, refinement and status.
The advocacy declares that Farah Khan’s remark, made on a largely seen public platform, has harmed the feelings of the Hindu community and could encourage municipal disorders. The comment quickly sparked media attention, with points of sale like Firstpost reported on the indignation of the public.
Following the controversy, Vikas Fhatak filed an official complaint with the main police inspector at the Khar police station on February 21, asking for a FIR against Khan.
Fhatak then degenerated his complaint with the deputy police commissioner and the additional police commissioner, urging the action against Farah Khan.
However, he claims that no measure has been taken so far and the police have not yet recorded a fir.
In his petition, deposited by lawyer Ali Kaashif Khan-Deshmukh, Fhatak stressed that Holi is a festival of joy and unity, symbolizing the triumph of good on evil.
He argued that Farah Khan’s remarks directly insult the cultural and religious feelings of millions of Hindu in the world.
“The petitioner declares that the remarks made by the respondent n ° 5 (Khan) not only harmed the Hindu community, but also to establish a dangerous precedent where public figures can make derogatory statements on religious festivals without responsibility. Given the influence of the respondent n ° 5 As a celebrity, the impact of these words is Magnien, potentially encouraging a public insistence, community tensions and social plans. Protests, law and order problems and unnecessary disorders in an otherwise peaceful society. »»
Fhatak maintains that non-compliance with the police of the police violates the decision of the Supreme Court in Lalita Kumari c. Government of Uttar Pradesh & Ors (2014). The judgment requires that an FIR must be registered under article 154 of the CRPC if the information provided indicates a recognizable offense.
The petition claims that the complaint of Fhatak clearly reveals a recognizable offense, which makes the police legally compulsory to record a FIR.
